JOE TALAMO, DAWNIE MACHO, Winner: “She not only has speed, but she’s rateable. She broke so sharp then just came right back to me. When I shook the reins at her she just took off. She won easy going 4 1/2 (furlongs) and for her first time moving forward it was unbelievable. John (Sadler) said they just bought her and worked her one time. I talked to John this morning and he gave me all the confidence in the world. He said she’ll do whatever you want, and she did. We’ll have some fun at Del Mar with her.”
VICTOR ESPINOZA, IZSHELEGAL, Second: “She’s a very talented filly. I thought she would run big, but unfortunately she came running a little bit late. I haven’t been on her, but I watched her work and I saw that she did everything nice and comfortable. Because it was her first time, I wanted to ride her patient. I just wanted to let her finish up good.”
JOHN SADLER, DAWNIE MACHO, Winner: “When I went to Chicago to look at her she reminded me a lot of Coco Belle, another horse I trained. I flew back to Chicago on the redeye after a Lakers game. I got into Chicago at 5:30 in the morning and went out to Arlington to look at her. Then I got on a plane and flew back. We put a deal together about a week after her first race. We had a little trouble getting a plane out for her but when I got her back, she really breezed well Monday. The ($150,000) Sorrento (Aug. 6) Del Mar will be her next start.”
