ALEX SOLIS, TANDA, Winner: “She won today because she’s a runner, but I think she’s capable of better. Her last race was so impressive. Right when I got to the five-eighth pole I felt we were going kind of slow, so I thought I better get in there and take control of the race and make may own pace. It worked out good for us. I’ll fly anywhere to ride her, anytime, any place.”
JOEL ROSARIO, SWITCH, Second: “She ran great, but the winner got a better trip inside. I was worried about that because my filly had the outside post. She ran super, but I think the post positions made the difference.”
DAN HENDRICKS, TANDA, Winner: “The way he (Solis) rode her, the rail was fine. He moved her up easily on a slow fraction and that’s the winning move. Had they gone 21 and change or 22 and he did that, he’d already got beat. She’s a very nice filly, I’m very impressed with her. Both the Hollywood Oaks and the Acorn are four weeks (away). It’s Belmont weekend, and there’s going to be an easy flight there and back with the Belmont horses, so it makes it a lot easier to decide to go to New York for a Grade 1. And what a great progression, from 6 and one-half at Santa Anita to 7 furlongs here to a one turn mile there. That progression couldn’t be better. We’ve wanted to route her for three races, but luckily they didn’t give us any options when she won the Santa Paula. I’m leaning toward the Acorn. I don’t think today gives us any reason not to go.”
NOTES: The win was the first in the Railbird for both Solis and Hendricks….The $300,000 Betfair TVG Acorn will be run on Saturday, June 5 as part of the Belmont Stakes undercard.
