CHANTAL SUTHERLAND, STAR BILLING, Winner: “I worked her the other morning and she did a lot of looking around. When I did get in the stretch she was looking and had her ears forward so I did a little screaming. But she ran really well, she’s nice. I love riding for the Krikorians, they’re such nice people. And John Shirreffs, he always does such a great job. It’s an honor riding for these people. I feel really great. Let’s keep it rolling.
KAYLA STRA, ENTRUSTMENT, Second: “How about that, the women running 1-2 in the Senorita Stakes. I think that’s the first time Chantal has beaten me when we’ve finished first and second. Every other time, I beat her. It’s OK. I’ll let her have the stakes.”
BRICE BLANC, CAMBINA, Third: “I had a good trip. I moved out on the backside and tried to move a little bit gradually because they weren’t going that fast. She was on the bridle, but as I said, they weren’t going very fast. She gave me a good run, I just couldn’t catch them. I can’t really give her an excuse.”
OWNER-BREEDER GEORGE KRIKORIAN, STAR BILLING, Winner: “She’s a half sister to Starrer, who’s a multiple graded winning stakes mare, and also a half-sister to a horse called Stellar Jayne, who’s also a multiple Grade I winner. We just hope the family continues to flourish like this. I don’t know where we’ll run next. We’ll just have to digest this and then let John find a good spot for her.’’
Notes: This was the second Senorita win for Krikorian and Shirreffs, having teamed with Makeup Artist in 2003…
