JOEL ROSARIO, ULTRA BLEND, Winner: “She was a little bit wide on the turn but she liked running free on the outside. I didn’t really see any point trying to stay inside because I had a lot of horse. When I asked her to run she had a really nice kick. The other mare (Lady Railrider) tried to come back, but mine was just galloping. I rode her once before at Del Mar and she tried really hard that day, too. The filly (Bran Jammas in the Solana Beach Handicap Aug. 22) was just too tough. She’s a little filly but she always tries hard.”
FRANK ALVARADO, LADY RAILRIDER, Second: “My mare had a perfect trip but she just wasn’t good enough. No excuses.”
PATRICK VALENZUELA, WARREN’S JITTERBUG, Third: “She ran a good race. She kicked when I asked her, she just couldn’t overtake the top two. She’s a younger filly running against older mares. I had a lot of horse when the hole opened at the top of the stretch, but she couldn’t sustain that run.”
ART SHERMAN, ULTRA BLEND, Winner: “If you know this filly, she’s got a heart this big. If you look at her form, she’s right there every time she runs. She just lays the body down. She gets beat sometimes, but she wins sometimes too. She’s just one of those fillies you’ve got to love as a trainer. I know Rosario likes her a lot. She just gives it everything she has, and she’s not very big. She’s a small filly, but she’s got a lot of ability.
STEVEN SPECHT, LADY RAILRIDER, Second: “She got outrun. She was in a good position the whole way – she just got outrun. The only thing I wasn’t happy with was the finish. She tries every time.”
JORGE GUTIERREZ, WARREN’S JITTERBUG, Third: “After the last race here I thought she might have tapered off slightly. She came back and worked well enough for this. I was more surprised she was closer to the lead. Usually she lays back there and makes a big run, which I wasn’t upset about, it just kind of worried me that she wouldn’t have that kick and she didn’t. She was right up there. She ran her race. She was just close to the pace.”
