MARIO GUTIERREZ, SPROUTS, Winner: “I knew she got a lot out of her first race. She’s a real nice filly. Everything went real well.”
RAFAEL BEJARANO, PLEASANT MISS, Second: “I tried to get her comfortable, but I had pressure on me. I had the rail, so I had to use her to keep my position.”
EDWARD FREEMAN, SPROUTS, Winner: “She’s improved so much. I think it’s just experience and maturity. The first race she definitely learned a lot and grew up. The second time (Gutierrez) was super confident. Then she came back and worked beautifully for this race. I was pretty confident going in. I thought she might get a speed duel in front of her and she did.”
DAN WARD (asst. trainer to Jerry Hollendorfer), PLEASANT MISS—Second: “I thought she ran a good race. That was her first start for us. I don’t think the rail is where you want to be going head-and-head the whole way.’’
WALTHER SOLIS, TIME FOR ANGIE, Third: “This filly breaks hard and gets into position, but the distance is too short for her. She comes running and will like it when she goes longer.”
