RAFAEL BEJARANO, WARREN’S JITTERBUG, Winner: “She broke well and was moving really well. I tried to save a little ground to the turn. When we got to the stretch I tried to break clear with her and she did. I thought I was going to win easier than I did, but when she was in front by herself, she felt like she was waiting on the other horses. That’s why I had to hit her a little bit inside the sixteenth pole. As soon as she felt the other horse (Going for a Spin) getting close my horse kept running and was pulling away again at the end.”
DAVID FLORES, GOING FOR A SPIN, Second: “The winner got the jump on us on the turn. She was about a length in front of us the whole way. I could never get it going until real late. I guess positioning means a lot sometimes.”
JORGE GUTIERREZ, WARREN’S JITTERBUG, Winner: “She runs great after layoffs. I thought she’d be a lot farther behind, but even though they were doing a lot of work up there, she was only six or seven lengths. This will set her up perfectly for the rest of the summer. If everything goes well and she comes out of this good, we’ll have fun with her. We’ll go for two-turns on grass next. I loved her today. I talked to Bejarano’s agent (Joe Ferrer) and I told him I’d wait for him just in case he didn’t have a mount. He told me he’d ride her and asked if she was ready and I told him I thought she had a big chance. It worked out perfect.”
