CHANTAL SUTHERLAND, GAME ON DUDE, Winner: “He was quick out of there. Bob (Baffert) said to get him in the race. Joe (Talamo on Morning Line) got a little close to him early and he got aggressive. On the backside, I didn’t move a muscle. I don’t even know if I breathed. He was just like on go. He relaxed sweet and then he just took off. It was like he was on autopilot, really. He made me look like a champion. It’s so much fun to ride a horse like that, I can’t tell you. It’s just like unbelievable, the power and so much endurance. Bob said in the paddock he might be a little short. If that’s Bob’s short, what the heck.”
JOEL ROSARIO, KETTLE CORN, Winne: “I had to move early because they were going so slow. He ran a good race to come back for second.”
RAFAEL BEJARANO, PRAYER FOR RELIEF, Third: “I knew the winner was going to be tough. I worked him the last two or three times and he looked amazing. Something had to happen to him for me to have a chance to win the race. He made a good move and I thought I might have a chance in the stretch, but the other horse is too good.”
BOB BAFFERT, GAME ON DUDE, Winner: “I knew he’d be fresh, but I thought he’d be a little short. I told (Chantal) to go away from there and let him get into a groove and don’t worry about anything. He’ll just drag you around there. Neither of my horses (Game on Dude, The Factor) ran well (in Dubai). He (Game on Dude) didn’t break well and got shuffled back. It wasn’t him. He really didn’t run his race. Now both of them are doing well. For two weeks, I didn’t really do anything with him. Lately, he’s been really doing great. Instead of working him again, I let him run for $150,000. Chantal gets along with him really well. He really likes her. That’s why she’s riding him. The (Grade I, $500,000) Hollywood Gold Cup (July 7) is the next step.”
JOE TORRE, PART OWNER, GAME ON DUDE, Winner: “I almost went to Dubai with this horse last time but something came up in baseball and I couldn’t do it. I wanted to go. Dubai is interesting. In a way it was disappointing, but in another way it was great that (Baffert) came home and recovered the way he did. That’s the most important thing. There’s always another race.”
JOHN SADLER, KETTLE CORN, Second: “He ran OK, but the winner is the winner. He was much the best. Hopefully we can catch him in a handicap where we can get some weight. We need a little weight pull from him.”
