JOE TALAMO, INCLUDE ME OUT, Winner: Once we got to the outside, we just had a great stalking trip. She’s so professional and Ron (Ellis) has done such a great job keeping her fresh. She always has a lot of run. She’s just so smart, you can do whatever you want with her. If there ever was a case where there’s no speed, she could wire the field. If they go (the half mile) in 45 and change like they did in the La Canada (Jan. 22), she can come from five or six out of it.’’
RAFAEL BEJARANO, ELLAFITZ, Second: “She made an easy lead and the fractions were slow. But the winner was right behind me the whole race and when she made that move she passed us pretty easily.”
RON ELLIS, INCLUDE ME OUT, Winner: “On paper it looked like it would go like that and it was perfect. This filly hadn’t run in two months and she got the job done. She’s real push button and (jockey) Joe (Talamo) pushed her a little early to make Ellafitz get clear. I told Joe if Ellafitz tried to go too slow, just let her go to the lead. We have a lot of confidence in our filly. Luckily, she can kind of sit where you need her to sit. We’re trying to make the whole year with her, that’s why we’ve skipped a race here and there. She’s bred to go long, she’s by Include. We wanted to get her some experience and I kind of pointed her for the La Canada series all along. She’s very professional and very smart. She wants to do her job, wants to win. She’ll probably run in the (Grade I, $250,000) Vanity (Handicap June 16).”
MIKE MARLOW (ASST. TRAINER, BOB BAFFERT), ELLAFITZ, Second: “I thought she did great. At the sixteenth pole when he brought her off the rail, she tried to come back. I thought she ran a real nice race.”
*JOHN SADLER, ZAZU, Fourth”: “There’s really nothing to say.”
