INGLEWOOD, Calif. (March 20, 2013)—Dhaamer, who won the Round Table Stakes and Sunset Handicap during the 2012 Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make his first start as a 6-year-old in the $100,000 Tokyo City Cup Saturday at Santa Anita.
A Grade III for older horses at 1 ½ miles, the Tokyo City is the seventh of nine races. Post time Saturday at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by Mike Mitchell for owners Edward Brown, Jr. and Jay Manoogian, Dhaamer has been away since finishing second as the 6-5 favorite in the Del Mar Handicap last Aug. 25.
Prior to his narrow defeat to Casino Host in the Grade II, the Irish bred gelding had won the Round Table by 4 ½ lengths as the 11-10 favorite and the Sunset by 3 ¼ lengths as the 2-5 choice. Both of those wins came at 12 furlongs, but were on the turf.
In his only previous race on conventional dirt, Dhaamer, who is a son of Dubai Destination, was second, beaten by a neck by Dynamic Host, in the 2012 Tokyo City Cup.
Out of the Ahonoora mare Arjuzah, Dhaamer has won five of 15 and earned $214,272.
