DAVID FLORES, TURBULENT DESCENT, Winner: I wasn’t going to take any chances and I would have hit her, but it was not needed. I just hand rode her all the way out. I just showed her the whip. It was a little more like a test today, but she won just the same. I am a little excited and a little relieved. I’m excited because I can tell what kind of horse she is. The relief is she handled the two turns well. She was relaxed and just great.”
PAT VALENZUELA, BIG TIZ, Second: “She was fighting me on the first turn and when a horse does that, it takes a lot out of them. I tried to get her back by finessing her and it wasn’t happening. She would have had a little more left at the end if I could have gotten her to relax that first part. She ran a great race. The filly that beat me is a real nice filly, but I think we can turn the tables on her.”
MIKE PUYPE, TURBULENT DESCENT, Winner: “I was never worried about this race. I never thought for a second she wouldn’t handle two turns. She’s just a really good filly and she’s got a great promising future ahead of her. She won just as easily as she did the other two times. No question about it. She’s very impressive. It was another perfect ride. David’s done real well with her. We’ll give her a little break right now and she’ll show up in about two months.’’
NOTES: David Flores also won the 2006 Starlet with Romance Is Diane…Turbulent Descent is the first 2-year-old filly to win both the Moccasin Stakes and the Starlet.
