RAFAEL BEJARANO, BURG BERG, Winner: “I thought I was going to make the lead easy, but when I saw the three (Briecat) break on top I just tried to get her to relax on the first turn. When I got to the three-eighths, I felt the pressure coming from behind but my filly kept trying, little by little. I kept pushing and my horse finally passed the leader. She showed me a big kick in the end.”
PACO GONZALEZ, BURG BERG, Winner: “She always runs well, but she’s been getting beat by necks and heads. She tries every time, she’s just been a little unlucky. She got a little wet in the paddock, but she’s always that way. Maybe a little bit more today than normal. I thought she was going to be a little better because now she’s stabled here. When I was at Santa Anita, she would really get nervous before a race. But she still gets a little wet. At the sixteenth pole I didn’t think we were going to catch the leader, but she just kept coming.”
