MARTIN GARCIA, SOUTHERN FIREBALL, Winner through dq: “I told the stewards that I had a place to go on the inside and that other horse came in and intimidated my filly really bad. After that, I took her outside and she still ran second. She was definitely the best horse. If I would have gotten through, she would have won easily.”
JOEL ROSARIO, REPO, Second: “I was in front of that other filly. She didn’t have anywhere to go. I thought I had her in tight but I didn’t interfere with her. When you pass somebody from the inside you should make sure you’re clear.”
LEANDRO MORO (Assistant trainer to Doug O’Neill), SOUTHERN FIREBALL and REPO, Winner and Second: “It’s very difficult when there’s an inquiry between your own two horses because there’s two different parties involved. One’s going to be happy and the other’s going to be unhappy. For a trainer or an assistant trainer it’s a little uncomfortable. It’s better when you finish one-two without incident. I thought the disqualification was a very tough call for the stewards.”
