JOEL ROSARIO, OIL MAN, Winner: “I wanted to stay a little closer today because there wasn’t a lot of speed in the race. I asked him for run turning for home and he responded real good. He finished up real strong.”
JOE TALAMO, ARCODORO, Second: “He had a great trip. I just rode him like my man Eric Guillot said and it worked out pretty good. He told me to go for the lead and if we go anywhere near :48, we’ll be in pretty good shape. For a maiden, he ran a winning race.”
GARRETT GOMEZ, MASSONE, Third: “I had a perfect trip. I saved all the ground on both turns, split horses and didn’t have to come off the fence too much. But I pointed him for the hole and he didn’t quicken very much. Just kind of stayed at the same pace.”
JOHN SADLER, OIL MAN, Winner: “He showed that he really wants long distance. He’ll stay forever. We were a little concerned with the scratches that there wouldn’t be much pace. Sometimes it’s a galloping pace, it wasn’t even that fast a pace and they all kind of bunched up. Where this horse has a chance to make a dent is in some mile-and-one-quarter, mile-and-one-half races.”
NOTES: Trainer John Sadler said Oil Man will start next in the American Derby at Arlington Park on July 11.
