INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2011) — The $750,000 CashCall Futurity, an annual stop for future Triple Crown contenders, will once again be the richest event on the stakes calendar for the 2011 Autumn Meet at Hollywood Park.
The Futurity, in the fifth year of sponsorship by the consumer loans company founded by noted horse owner-breeder J. Paul Reddam, has produced six Kentucky Derby champions and winners of 15 Triple Crown races since its inaugural running in 1981.
Lookin At Lucky, who won the 2009 Futurity, was the 3-year-old champion of 2010 and one of his victories during that campaign came in the Preakness.
The CashCall Futurity will be run for the 31st time Saturday, Dec. 17 — next-to-last day of the meet.
Seventeen stakes races with purses of more than $3 million are scheduled for the 26-day season, which commences Thursday, Nov. 10 and continues through Sunday, Dec. 18.
The Turf Festival will once again share the spotlight with the Futurity and $250,000 guaranteed Hollywood Starlet. The Turf Festival, which will be staged for the 18th time in 19 years over Thanksgiving weekend, consists of five graded races.
The Festival continues to feature three events – the Grade I $250,000 Matriarch (Friday, Nov. 25), the Grade II $250,000 Citation (Saturday, Nov. 26) and the Grade I $250,000 Hollywood Derby (Sunday, Nov. 27).
The co-feature with the Matriarch on the first day of the Festival is the $100,000 Miesque Stakes, a Grade III for 2-year-old fillies at one mile. The Generous Stakes, a Grade III for 2-year-olds at one mile, shares the spotlight with the Hollywood Derby Nov. 27.
In addition to the Matriarch, Citation and Hollywood Derby, the schedule features three other Grade I races – the CashCall Futurity, the Hollywood Starlet (Saturday, Dec. 10) and the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (Saturday, Nov. 19).
The Autumn Meet stakes schedule, which includes 12 graded races, begins with the $100,000 Real Quiet Stakes for 2-year-olds Saturday, Nov. 12.
