VICTOR ESPINOZA, TEDDY’S PROMISE, Winner “When she wants to run, she’s excellent. If I would have asked her to go early, she would go, but I didn’t want to do that. For such a long time off and five furlongs I wanted to take her back and make one run. It worked out perfect. I didn’t want her to be too aggressive. I just let her come out of the gate and do whatever she wanted to do.
GARRETT GOMEZ, RUMOR, Second: “It was a good comeback race for her. She rebounded and she’s back on form. Hopefully, she’ll have a good summer. I tried to be real patient with her because I understood what happened last time (bled). I let her kind of find her way the best as possible, stay out of her way and let her do her job.”
RON ELLIS, TEDDY’S PROMISE, Winner: “She ran awesome. I like the way she did it, sitting off the pace. She’s been a tough filly to get to relax and she took another step today. We planned on running in the three-race series; this, the ($70,000-added) Desert Stormer Handicap (at six furlongs June 17) and the ($200,000 Grade II) A Gleam Handicap (July 14). It builds up nicely to that seven furlong race.’’
RICHARD MANDELLA, RUMOR, Second: “I’m happy to have her come back like that. She did not run well in her last race and bled. It was a one-time thing, she never had a problem with it before and hasn’t since. I’m glad to see her come back well and we’ll probably point her to the A Gleam.”
