PATRICK VALENZUELA, AIN’T NO OTHER, Winner: “Nice way to open the meet, huh? Even though he’s never been on the turf, I was confident because (trainer) Steve (Miyadi) told me he could run and I knew I had a lot of horse underneath me. The horse Rafael was on (Robie the Cat) was trying to get out around the turn but I was able to collar him at the eighth pole and started to draw away but my horse kind of ducked in and out the last part. He ran a great race, just a little green on turf because he’s never run on it.”

RAFAEL BEJARANO, ROBIE THE CAT, Second: “I just wanted to let the stewards know that the other horse (Ain’t No Other) was coming in fast, right into my legs before the wire. I had to hold my horse. I don’t like to claim foul, but he almost cost me the place and I almost fell off my horse.”
