INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 2, 2014)—Betfair Hollywood Park, which wrapped 75 years of history with the conclusion of live racing Dec. 22, showed gains in both handle and on-track attendance compared to its next-to-last Autumn meet in 2012.
The average daily all-sources commingled handle on both imported races and those conducted at Betfair Hollywood Park during the 27-day season was up slightly ($8,935,076) over the 2012 season ($8,897,626).
The average daily all-sources commingled handle solely on races run at Betfair Hollywood Park during the 2013 Autumn season increased 3.9% over the previous year ($6,864,028 compared to $6,604,176).
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 22, 2013)-What Valley Lass started June 10, 1938 was finished Sunday by Woodmans Luck (video).
A 2-year-old California bred filly, Valley Lass was the first horse to win a race at Hollywood Park more than 75 ½ years ago.
Woodmans Luck, a 5-year-old gelding also bred in the state, was the last winner in the illustrious history of the legendary track, edging Depreciable by a nose after a thrilling stretch run put a cap to Sunday’s farewell 11-race program.

In its final 27-day season, the legendary track showed a gain in field size.
The average field size in 2013 was 8.15 starters per race compared to 7.89 a year ago and 7.33 in 2011.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 22, 2013) — Shared Belief, who won the Grade III Hollywood Prevue Nov. 10 and the Grade I CashCall Futurity Dec. 14 by a combined 13 ½ lengths, was a unanimous selection as Horse of the Meet in the annual media poll as racing wrapped forever Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park with the conclusion of the 27-day Autumn season.
Owned by a partnership that includes television and radio personality Jim Rome’s Jungle Racing LLC, KMN Racing LLC, Jason Litt, Alex Solis II, George Todaro and Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, the 2-year-old Candy Ride gelding remained undefeated in three starts with his two wins over Cushion Track. Also chosen 2-year-old and 2-year-old male, Shared Belief is a leading contender for the Eclipse Award as division champion and the early favorite for the 2014 Kentucky Derby.
Other winners were Streaming, who became a Grade I winner in only her second start with a 10-1 upset in the Hollywood Starlet Dec. 7, as 2-year-old filly, Broken Sword, who led throughout to take the Bayakoa Stakes Dec. 7, as 3-year-old filly, Blueskiesnrainbows, part of a 1-2-3 finish for Hollendorfer in the Grade III Native Diver Stakes Dec. 14, as older male and Majestic Stride, who won the Grade III Vernon O. Underwood Stakes Nov. 28, as sprinter.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 22, 2013)—An enthusiastic crowd helped send Hollywood Park into the sunset as the historic track, which opened June 10, 1938, offered its final day of live racing Sunday.
The paid on-track attendance was 13,283, but thousands more made their way into the legendary facility after admission became free shortly before the fourth race was made official.
Before the 11-race card was completed some 5 ½ hours after it began, California Chrome, the 2-1 favorite, became the last stakes winner in Hollywood Park history, rolling to a 6 ¼-length victory in the $200,500 King Glorious Stakes, which was restricted to 2-year-olds bred or sired in California.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 21, 2013)—Favored Swiss Lake Yodeler wore down 23-1 shot Rovenna in the final yards to win the $200,250 Soviet Problem Stakes Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park.
The victory in the race restricted to 2-year-old fillies bred or sired in California enabled Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer to establish an Autumn meet record.
The one-length score by the 9-10 choice was the seventh stakes success of the season for Hollendorfer, bettering the mark of six originally set by Hall of Famer Charlie Whittingham in 1984.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 21, 2013)—Sunday – the final day of racing in Betfair Hollywood Park history – will be spiced by a Pick Six carryover of $122,406.
Since it is closing day, there will be a mandatory payout in the sequence, which begins in the sixth race on the 11-race card. Scheduled post time for the sixth is 3:05 p.m.
Post time is 12:30 p.m. and track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.
