Hollendorfer Can Establish Stakes Record

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 15, 2013)—Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer can establish an Autumn meet record for most stakes wins by a trainer with a victory in either the $200,000 Soviet Problem Saturday, Dec. 21 or the $200,000 King Glorious Stakes Sunday, Dec. 22.

The pair of seven-furlong races for 2-year-olds bred or sired in California – the Soviet Problem is restricted to fillies – will be offered during the final weekend of racing in Hollywood Park history.

Saturday wins by Shared Belief in the Grade I, $751,500 CashCall Futurity and Blueskiesnrainbows in the Grade III, $150,500 Native Diver Stakes gave Hollendorfer six for the meet, tying a record established by Hall of Famer Charlie Whittingham during the 1984 Autumn season.

Special Mutuel Tickets To Be Sold Closing Day

(December 15, 2013)—In commemoration of the closing of Betfair Hollywood Park, mutuel tickets purchased on the final day of racing – Sunday, Dec. 22 – will have special messages highlighting some of the unforgettable achievments from legendary performers – both human and equine – during the 75-year history of the legendary track.

Known as the Home of Champions and the Track of the Lakes and Flowers, Hollywood Park has been the playground of thoroughbred superstars such as Seabiscuit, winner of the inaugural Hollywood Gold Cup in 1938, Noor, Citation, Swaps, Round Table, Affirmed, Ferdinand, Ack Ack, Native Diver, Lava Man, Skip Away, Cigar, John Henry and Zenyatta.

Many of the game’s greatest jockeys and trainers have added to their glowing resumes at Hollywood Park, including numerous Hall of Famers.

Final Hollywood Insider Set For Dec. 21

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 15, 2013)—The last Hollywood Insider of the final Autumn meet at Betfair Hollywood Park will be held Saturday, Dec. 21.

One of the analysts from Television Games Network (TVG) will host Hollywood Insider, which will feature special guests, plus handicapping tips, insights and other last minute information regarding the afternoon’s races.

The main event on the Dec. 21 card is the $200,000-guaranteed Soviet Problem Stakes.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 15, 2013)—Jockey Edwin Maldonado will be the guest of co-hosts Michael Burns and George Ortuzar for the final Escogiendo Ganadores (Picking Winners) session Saturday, Dec. 21.

The Spanish-language handicapping seminar has been offered every Saturday during the last Autumn meet, which concludes Sunday, Dec. 22.

Maldonado, who shared the 2013 Spring/Summer riding title with Rafael Bejarano after winning the 2012 Autumn championship, will discuss his career with Burns and Ortuzar as well as the Betfair Hollywood Park card, including the $200,000-guaranteed Soviet Problem Stakes.

Final Week Of Racing At BHP Begins Friday, Dec. 20

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 15, 2013)—The final week of racing in the history of Betfair Hollywood Park will begin Friday, Dec. 20 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 22.

Post time each day is 12:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m.

Although Betfair Hollywood Park will not have live racing Monday-Thursday (Dec. 16-19), the Betfair Hollywood Park Players’ Club will be open for simulcasts. Admission is free.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 14, 2013)—After winning his first two starts around one turn by a combined 14 ¾ lengths, Shared Belief was again dominant as he stretched out and stepped into Grade I company for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer in the $751,500 CashCall Futurity (video) Saturday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The 33rd Futurity was the most prestigious and lucrative of three graded races offered on the next-to-last Saturday of the final Autumn meet.

Earlier in the day, Lucayan rallied from last to win the Grade II, $250,250 Hollywood Turf Cup and the Hollendorfer-trained Blueskiesnrainbows led throughout to take the Grade III, $150,500 Native Diver Stakes.

Longshot Mr T Bird ($59.60) Rolls Home In Feature; Talamo Wins Four, Impressive Bow For Midnight Hawk

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 13, 2013)—Mr T Bird, the longest shot in the field at nearly 29-1, completed a Friday double for trainer Mike Puype with a last-to-first victory in the $55,932 feature.

Rebounding after four consecutive off-the-board finishes, the 4-year-old Military gelding lagged well off the quick pace set by Monastic, rallied outside eventual runner-up Holladay Road and won by a half-length under jockey Brice Blanc.

Owned by Three Kings Racing, Mr T Bird, who is out of the Mongoose mare Patient Malory, completed the 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:47.06. He paid $59.60, $21.40 and $12.20 and increased his earnings to $96,510.

Fanticola ($13.40) Remains Perfect On Turf

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 12, 2013)—Fanticola remained undefeated since switched to turf, leading most of the way in the $52,750 feature Thursday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Owned by Anthony Fanticola and Joseph Scardino and trained by Mike Mitchell, the 3-year-old Silent Name filly has won three in a row on grass after beginning her career with a pair of seconds and a third on Del Mar’s Polytrack.

Out of the Tabasco Cat mare Catalina Cat, Fanticola took over from Ricspretentiousgal while between horses into the first turn, relaxed well under jockey Joe Talamo and repelled all challengers in the final quarter of a mile.
