INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 20, 2012)—Acclamation, the champion older male of 2011, is among the 14 older horses nominated to the $100,000 Inglewood Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park.
A Grade III at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Inglewood will highlight the first Friday night program (April 27) of the Spring/Summer meet. It is also the first graded event of the 50-day season.
A 6-year-old California bred son of Unusual Heat, Acclamation ended 2011 on a five race win streak. Included were his second consecutive victories in the Jim Murray and Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicaps over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf course.
Owned by Peter and Mary Hilvers and breeders Bud and Judy Johnston and trained by Don Warren, Acclamation would be making his first start in the Inglewood since taking the Grade II Clement L. Hirsch last Oct. 2 at Santa Anita. The bay has won nine of 28 and earned $1,628,048.
Another horse nominated to the Inglewood with a Betfair Hollywood Park stakes win on their resume is Haimish Hy, who was the upset winner of the 2010 Hollywood Derby.
Following is the complete list of nominees to the Inglewood: Acclamation, Calimonco, Fire With Fire, Haimish Hy, Holladay Road, Jeranimo, Make Music for Me, Saratoga Yankee, Slim Shadey, Smug, Tigah, Utopian and Worth Repeating.
