INGLEWOOD, Calif. (March 22, 2013)—Lady of Shamrock, who earned the first Grade I victory of her career in the 2012 American Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make her first start as a 4-year-old in the $150,000 Santa Ana Stakes Sunday at Santa Anita.
A Grade II for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Santa Ana is the seventh of nine races. Post time Sunday at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by John Sadler for Hronis Racing LLC, Lady of Shamrock won four of six starts on turf in 2012, including the rail-skimming victory as the 3-2 favorite in the American Oaks.
Unraced since finishing fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf last Nov. 2, the Scat Daddy filly out of the Blushing John mare Blushing Issue will be seeking her seventh lifetime win in her 12th start Sunday. She has earned $705,400.
The field of six also includes Quiet Oasis, who won both the Wilshire Handicaps and Royal Heroine Mile during the 2012 Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Idle since winning the Grade II Royal Heroine by a head last July 7, Quiet Oasis will be seeking her fifth victory. Owned by Reddam Racing LLC and trained by Ben Cecil, the 5-year-old Irish bred mare has banked $262,739 in 10 outings.
