INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 28, 2012)—Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will try to add another stakes win to his resume when he sends out Pink Lollipops and American Lady in the $70,000-added Reminiscing Stakes Friday night at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Post time Friday is 7:05 p.m. Admission is $10 and $20 after 8:30 p.m.
At the conclusion of the eight race program, a concert starring Rebelution will begin at the North Park. Approximate start time is 10:30 p.m.
Baffert, who has a Spring/Summer meet high five stakes wins through the first 20 days, can move into sole possession of fifth on the all-time list at Betfair Hollywood Park if either Pink Lollipops or American Lady prevails.
He and D. Wayne Lukas have 84 local stakes victories. Charlie Whittingham leads with 222.
Owned by Arnold Zetcher, Pink Lollipops will stretch to 7 ½ furlongs over Cushion Track in the Reminiscing – which goes as the fourth race – after finishing third in the May 6 Time To Leave Stakes at five furlongs.
A 4-year-old daughter of Silver Deputy and the Private Terms mare Christmas Rose, Pink Lollipops has won two of six and earned $89,312.
A gray filly by Stormy Atlantic and the Rubiano mare Comfort Zone, American Lady has won twice in five starts for owner Kaleem Shah. The 4-year-old has banked $90,786.
This will be the second start of the year for American Lady. She was second behind Mildly Offensive in an optional claimer April 5 at Santa Anita.
The most recent win for American Lady, who was bred in Kentucky by Clarkland Farm, came in a $61,032 allowance last June 30 at Betfair Hollywood Park. She won by 2 ¼ lengths in the race at 6 ½ furlongs as the 3-10 favorite.
Spectacular Sky will be seeking her first local victory in the Reminiscing. Owned by AJM Racing LLC and Jason Litt and trained by Marty Jones, the 4-year-old Sky Mesa filly out of the Boone’s Mill mare La Princesse Jolie has been second or third in four of six over Cushion Track.
Purchased for $40,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale in 2009, Spectacular Sky has won two of 11 and banked $128,200.
Top Debutante arrives from Turf Paradise off a win in the Ann Owens Distaff Handicap for Arizona breds April 28.
Trained by R. Kory Owens for owner-breeder Triple AAA Ranch, the 4-year-old Top Hit filly out of the French Deputy mare French Debutante has won three of nine and earned $91,159.
One of her victories occurred in Southern California. Top Debutante defeated $75,000 maidens in her debut Feb. 4, 2011 at Santa Anita.
Fifth of sixth in the Grade II Marjorie L. Everett Handicap May 19, Suzettes Friend shortens up a bit for owner Raymond Taylor and trainer Rafael DeLeon.
A 6-year-old daughter of Friends Lake and the Gulch mare Kelbey, Suzettes Friend had been sidelined for some nine months when she returned in the Everett. She wound up 14 lengths behind winner Include Me Out.
The last victory for Suzettes Friend came in a $40,000 claimer last July 14 at Sacramento when she was trained by Bill Morey, Jr. The Kentucky bred has won four of 20 and has a bankroll of $115,048.
Trained by Laz Barrera for owner-breeder Harbor View Farm and Jacobs, Reminiscing was a multiple stakes winner. A daughter of Never Bend and the Hail to Reason mare Straight Deal, she earned one of her victories in the Sequoia Handicap – which is now called the A Gleam Handicap – under Laffit Pincay, Jr. in 1977.
