INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2009) — Bestdressed rallied from last on the turn for home en route to a 2 ½-length victory over Enriched in Saturday’s $79,250 On Trust Handicap at Hollywood Park, completing three-win days for jockey Joel Rosario and trainer John Sadler.

Rosario, instructed by Sadler to let Bestdressed relax until the final quarter-mile, followed instructions perfectly, content to sit well back in the field of seven as Dance With Gable, My Summer Slew and Enriched vied for the lead most of the way.

Rosario swung Bestdressed to the outside for the stretch run and the 5-year-old easily overhauled the pacesetters while covering 7 ½ furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:27.65 under 115 pounds.

Bestdressed, by 1996 Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Lit de Justice, paid $12.60, $6.20 and $3.20 as the second choice. Enriched held on for second with Garrett Gomez up, paying $7 and $3.20. Favorite and defending champion Star Nicholas — third as the co-high weight with 121 pounds under Michael Baze — paid $2.60.

“He’s been really unlucky a couple of times because he’s a late-running sprinter,” Sadler said. “He probably should have won a race at Del Mar and maybe one other, but this worked out good. The pace came back to him today. Rosario’s a great rider for him because he’s such a strong finisher.”

The victory snapped an eight-race losing streak for Bestdressed, whose previous victory came in February at Santa Anita with Rosario up.

“I think he’s much better now than when I rode him last summer.,” Rosario said. “I knew they were going pretty fast and that it would help my horse because he’s got a great quarter-mile run. I really wasn’t worried about the horses in front of me. I was just concentrating on saving his run for the stretch.”

Bestdressed, owned by Great Friends Stable, won for the sixth time in 38 starts. The winner’s share of $48,450 raised the gelding’s earnings to $326,373.

Rosario, who notched his first riding title here at the 2009 Spring/Summer Meet, also connected on Fire Break in the second race and aboard Sadler-trained Twirling Candy in the third race. Sadler’s other victory came with Monolingual in the sixth race.
