INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 9, 2013)—A pair of 3-year-olds stabled at Betfair Hollywood Park are among seven entered in the $100,000 California Derby Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.
Scheduled for 1 1/16 miles over Tapeta, the California Derby is the fourth of nine races. Scheduled post time is 2:15 p.m. Post time at Golden Gate Saturday is 12:45 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by Craig Dollase for West Point Thoroughbreds, Tree of Life will return to a synthetic surface after finishing fifth in the Grade III Generous on turf Nov. 24 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
A gelded son of Lion Heart and the Gulch mare Professora, Tree of Life has two wins in four starts and earnings of $100,550. Before shipping to Northern California, the Kentucky bred worked a bullet six furlongs in 1:12 1/5 over Cushion Track Jan. 4.
Owned by Gary and Cecil Barber and Kevin Tsujihara and trained by Peter Miller, Will True Up, who worked a half mile in 48 3/5 Jan. 7, will be making his initial appearance over a synthetic surface.
A maiden winner going six furlongs over the Betfair Hollywood Park grass Dec. 8, Will True Up, a Lawyer Ron colt out of the Outofthebox mare My Into Wishin is 1-for-4 with a bankroll of $42.050.
