INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 22, 2013) — Betfair Hollywood Park showed gains in both all-sources handle and daily average handle during its recently-concluded Spring/Summer meet.
The 49-day season, which commemorated the historic track’s 75th anniversary, wrapped July 14.
The total commingled handle was $462,251, 389, a rise of 2% over the $453,205,706 wagered during the 50-day, Spring/Summer meet in 2012.
The daily average all-sources handle was $9,433,702, a 4.1% increase from the daily average of $9,064,114 last year.
Bolstered by advance deposit wagering, the average daily handle in the state of California rose to $5,319,781, a jump of 1.5% from $5,242,357 in 2012. The average daily out of state handle increased to $4,113,921, up 7.6% from $3,821,757 a year earlier.
Introduced by Betfair Hollywood Park at the start of the 2011 Spring/Summer meet, the Players’ Pick 5 continued to be extremely popular with the wagering public.
Handle on the low takeout – 14% – bet with a 50-cent minimum had a daily average of $290,774, a boost of nearly 25% from 2012.
Interest also remained high in the Pick Six, especially on the nine selected Saturdays during the meet where the pool was guaranteed at $150,000.
Spurred by the lure of a 2013 Toyota Prius – courtesy of Toyota of Orange – being awarded to a single ticket holder provided the ticket was purchased at Betfair Hollywood Park or through Television Games Network (TVG), the average Pick Six pool jumped 12.4% over the 2012 average. There were nine Pick Six carryovers in both the 2012 and 2013 Spring/Summer meets.
Field size also had a slight bump, increasing from 7.48 horses per race a year ago to 7.60 in 2013.
Betfair Hollywood Park’s final Autumn meet is scheduled to begin Thursday, November 7 and continue through Sunday, Dec. 22.
