INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 15, 2012)—Byrama, who won the Manhattan Beach Stakes June 9 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will try an equipment change for her second start of the Del Mar meet in the $85,000 Sandy Blue Handicap Friday.
A one mile turf event for 3-year-old fillies, the Sandy Blue is the sixth of seven races. Post time Friday is 4 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by Simon Callaghan for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Byrama, who won the Manhattan Beach by a neck as the 7-10 favorite, will race without blinkers Friday for the first time since she was third in the Grade III Senorita Stakes May 5 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Fourth in the Grade II San Clemente Handicap July 22 in her Del Mar debut, Byrama has earned two of her three victories without blinkers. The English bred daughter of Byron out of the Darshaan mare Aymara has earned $155,028 in nine outings.
The field also includes Lady Ten, who was third as the 13-10 favorite in the Le Cle Stakes July 8 at Betfair Hollywood Park and Jolly Days, who ended the Spring/Summer meet with consecutive turf wins for owner-breeder Frank Stronach and trainer Paddy Gallagher.
