INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 21, 2013)—Boat Trip took advantage of a quick pace and a ground-saving trip to win the $69,010 feature Friday (video) at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Trained by Mike Pender for owners James Hirschmann III and B. J. Wright, the 4-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday and the Seeking the Gold mare Turning Wheel earned his third win in four starts over the local grass in his second race of 2013.

Ridden by Jose Valdivia, Jr., Boat Trip, a 5-1 shot, outfinished the comebacking Kinsale King by a neck. Chiloquin, who had finished a half-length in front of Boat Trip when runner-up in a $67,086 allowance May 19, was a half-length back in third.

Coach Bob, the eventual fourth place finisher, set a quick pace (21.23 and 43.65 for the half-mile) after breaking from the inside under jockey Agapito Delgadillo.

Making his first start since Sept. 7, 2011 at Del Mar, Kinsale King, a multiple graded stakes winner, took over from the pacesetter in deep stretch, but couldn’t contain the surge of Boat Trip.

Winner of the 2012 Tsunami Slew Stakes, Boat Trip completed the five furlongs in 55.48 seconds. He paid $13.80, $6.40 and $4.80. The Kentucky bred has earned $167,556 while winning four of 10.

The second longest shot in the cast of seven at 10-1, Kinsale King returned $11.40 and $5.60. The show price on Chiloquin was $4.

Cutting back in distance after trailing in the Grade II American Handicap May 25, Chosen Miracle finished fifth as the 13-10 favorite. Summer Exclusive, the field’s sole 3-year-old and winner of the Harry Henson Stakes April 25, and Crimson Giant completed the order of finish.

Racing resumes Saturday. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

The sixth $150,000-guaranteed Pick Six Saturday –Presented by Television Games Network (TVG) – of the Spring/Summer meet will begin in the fifth race.

If the Pick Six pool exceeds $200,000 on any of the remaining selected Saturdays – which also include June 29, July 6 and July 13 – there will be $1 Happy Hour food and drink specials offered at Whittingham’s Pub and the Betfair Players’ Lounge.

A bonus – a 2013 Toyota Prius courtesy of Toyota of Orange – will also be given to a single winning ticket – provided it was purchased either at Betfair Hollywood Park or through TVG.

The main event on the nine-race program is the $150,000 Hollywood Oaks, a Grade II for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track.
