INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2009) — Bootleg Annie, a winner of half of her 30 races, will aim for her third victory in her four most recent starts in Sunday’s $75,000 Cat’s Cradle Handicap at Hollywood Park.
The California-bred daughter of Go for Gin won the Cal Cup Distaff Handicap on turf in her last start and shifts to Cushion Track for the 7 1/2-furlong Cat’s Cradle. All but on of her 15 wins have come on turf.
Bootleg Annie, owned by Al and Sandee Kirkwood, has finished in the money in 24 of her races, earning a race-high $445,358. Since shifting to the barn of Kathy Walsh early this year, the 5-year-old has won five of seven races.
The 26th running of the Cat’s Cradle drew a field of five Cal-bred fillies and mares and lines up as follows from the rail out:
Barbara’s Love, with David Flores up, carries 116 pounds; Bootleg Annie, Rafael Bejarano, 121; U R All That I Am, Joel Rosario, 113; Smooth Performer, Garrett Gomez, 117, and Gambler’s Justice, Joseph Talamo, 115.
Northern California shipper U R ALL That I Am will be aiming for her fourth straight victory; Smooth Performer has won two of her last three starts while beating fellow Cat’s Cradle entrant Gambler’s Justice twice, and Barbara’s Love will be seeking her second win in four starts following a year-long layoff.
The Cat’s Cradle Handicap will run as the third race on Sunday’s nine-race program at Hollywood Park. First post time is 12:30 p.m.
