Camp Victory, Jeranimo Seek More Graded Success Sunday

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 24, 2012)—Camp Victory and Jeranimo, both Grade I winners on the same program during the Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park, return to action Sunday at Del Mar.

Camp Victory, who won the Triple Bend Handicap June 30 for a partnership and trainer Mike Mitchell, is among six scheduled to run seven furlongs over Polytrack in the $250,000 Pat O’Brien Stakes.

Jeranimo, who rallied from last to capture the Shoemaker Mile three races after Camp Victory’s 10-1 surprise, will have five opponents in the $200,000 Del Mar Mile Handicap on turf.

Both the Pat O’Brien and Del Mar Mile are Grade II events and are the supporting features on an 11 race program Sunday highlighted by the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic.

Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

A 5-year-old gelded son of Forest Camp and the Clever Trick mare Victory Trick, Camp Victory has won three of 10 and earned over $400,000 since being claimed by his current connections for $40,000 Feb. 13, 2011.

Second behind The Factor in the 2011 O’Brien, Camp Victory will be seeking his ninth lifetime win in his 24th start. He will carry top weight of 123 pounds.

From inside out, the field for the 27th Pat O’Brien: Bruce’s Dream, Joel Rosario rides, 119 pounds; Mobilized, Garrett Gomez, 119; Capital Account, David Flores, 119; Don Tito, Paco Lopez, 119; Camp Victory, Joe Talamo, 123 and Coil, Rafael Bejarano, 121.

The O’Brien is the fifth while the Del Mar Mile is the seventh.

Owned by B.J. Wright and trained by Mike Pender, Jeranimo, a 6-year-old son of Congaree out of the Jeblar mare Jera, has won eight of 28 and the Shoemaker Mile score pushed his earnings to $1,068,400. He’s been 1-2-3 in five of seven at one mile on turf.
