INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 22, 2009) – Cherokee Heaven rallied from sixth at the top of the stretch under jockey Brice Blanc to score a two- length victory over Topper Shopper in Friday night’s $56,320 allowance feature at Hollywood Park.
The Marty Jones-trained 5-year-old horse covered six furlongs on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:07.94 while making his first start in 11 months. Topper Shopper, who dueled on the front-end with Wine On the Porch most of the way, hung on gamely for second, while the latter finished in a dead heat for third with Noblety in the field of eight.
Cherokee Heaven paid $9.80, $5.20 and $4.60, while Topper Shopper returned $9.60 and $5.60.Wine On the Porch paid $2.40 and Noblety $2.60.
Cherokee Heaven, a son of Cherokee Run, won for the third tim eight starts while banking $31,200 to raise his earnings to $114,520.
