Chips All In Makes Local Debut In Tsunami Slew

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 17, 2012)—Chips All In, a two time stakes winner on turf, will make his Betfair Hollywood Park debut in the $70,000 Tsunami Slew Stakes Friday night.

Named in honor of the multiple stakes winner owned by Royal Lines and trained by the late Eddie Gregson, the Tsunami Slew is for 3-year-olds and will be run at one mile on grass. It is the seventh of eight races.

Post time Friday is 7:05 p.m. Admission is $10 – $20 after 8:30 p.m.

Immediately after the races are completed, a concert starring Jimmy Cliff will begin at the North Park. Approximate start time is 10:30 p.m.

Owned by Jean Everest, John O’Brien, Danny Valdez and Michelle Turpin and trained by Jeff Mullins, Chips All In won the Eddie Logan and Pasadena during the Winter/Spring meet at Santa Anita in his first two appearances on turf.

The son of North Light and the Maria’s Mon mare Maria’s Mirage suffered his first loss on grass when defeated by a nose by Stoney Fleece in the Alcatraz Stakes May 12 at Golden Gate Fields.

Bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs, Chips All In has won five of eight and earned $208,600.

Unusual Heatwave will switch to grass for trainer Alexis Barba after finishing fourth in the Grade III Affirmed Handicap June 3.

Owned by Ellen and Peter O. Johnson, Sr. and Teresa McWilliams, the son of Unusual Heat and the Candi’s Gold mare Miss Alphie will be making his third start of the Spring/Summer meet. Before the Affirmed, Unusual Heatwave rallied from well off the pace to win the Snow Chief Stakes, the main event of California Gold Rush Day April 28.

Canutletmedowneasy will stretch out after consecutive wins over the local turf. Owned by Cory Wagner and trained by Mark Glatt, the With Distinction colt out of the Polish Navy mare Mismatch has won two of six and earned $86,700.

Runner-up in his two grass races at Santa Anita, Canuletmedowneasy defeated maidens by a neck May 5 at six furlongs, then returned 15 days later to take an optional claimer by 1 ½ lengths at the same distance.

Boat Trip has also won two in a row – defeating maidens March 24 at Santa Anita and winning a six furlong allowance over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf May 4.

Trained by Mike Pender for James Hirschmann III and B.J. Wright, Boat Trip is 2-for-6. The son of Harlan’s Holiday and the Seeking the Gold mare Turning Wheel has earned $76,780.

Tiz Point will make his first start for Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella since he weakened to fifth in the La Puente Stakes April 20.

Owned and bred by Gerald Ford’s Diamond A Racing Corporation, the Tiznow colt out of the Storm Bird mare Windmill Point has won twice in eight starts. He’s earned $73,970. Tiz Point’s last win came in gate-to-wire fashion Feb. 18 at Santa Anita at the Tsunami Slew distance.

Doug O’Neill trains Tones for Steve Keh, Westsiderentals.com and W C Racing and the Irish bred has won three of 10 and banked $82,950. He’s 1-for-4 since joining the O’Neill stable after winning twice in England.

A son of Strategic Prince and the Entrepreneur mare Social Honour, Tones returns to California after finishing eighth in the Grade II American Turf May 4 at Churchill Downs. The dark bay’s U.S. victory came at nearly 13-1 in the Baffle Stakes Feb. 26 at Santa Anita.
