INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 20)-Eight races followed by a concert by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts highlight the first Friday night of the Hollywood Park spring-summer meet.
Post time for the opener is 7:05 p.m. and the concert, the first of 12 during the season as part of Fan-tastic Fridays, will begin at the North Park lawn after the final race, approximately 10:30 p.m.
General admission to enjoy racing and the music is only $8 prior to 10 p.m. ($20 after 10 p.m.). Draft beer is $3 (until 9 p.m.) and hot dogs are only $2 all evening in the Grandstand and Club House.
The most intriguing race on the Friday program is the fifth, a $44,000 optional claimer for 3-year-olds at one mile on the turf.
Recent maiden winners Hockley and Theatrical Pro will be seeking to repeat against six opponents.
Trained by Eoin Harty for owner Darley Stable, Hockley broke through with his first victory in his seventh start. The 7-5 favorite on March 14 at Santa Anita, the A.P. Indy colt won by 1 ¼ lengths, completing the mile on grass in 1:35. Hockley, who has been worse than third only once, will break from the rail. He will have a new jockey in David Flores and will carry 122 ppunds.
A son of North Light, Theatrical Pro stretched out successfully to a mile in his second race for trainer owner-breeder Joe Duffel and trainer Jose DeLima.
Third at 24-1 in his sprint debut on March 26 at Santa Anita, Theatrical Pro was up to win by a half-length 15 days later. He will be ridden for the first time by Victor Espinoza on Friday and was also assigned 122 pounds.
