INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 17, 2009) ― Even-money favorite Dotsy Jean looked the part in Friday night’s $48,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Hollywood Park, gaining the lead inside the eighth pole and drawing off to score a 2 3/4-length victory as Joel Rosario increased his lead atop the jockeys’ standings with a pair of winners.
Rosario, nearing his first Southern California title with just three days remaining at the Spring/Summer Meet, increased his lead to 77-66 over Rafael Bejarano, who has won six straight titles on the circuit.
Dotsy Jean, a 4-year-old filly owned by AJM Racing and trained by Marty Jones, covered six furlongs on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:09.14 to win for the third time in five starts since being claimed for $16,000 in January.
Dotsy Jean paid $4, $2.60 and $2.20. Multitasker returned $3.80 and $2.80, while the show payoff on Kami D B C was $3.20.
Despite the win by the favorite in the feature, there were several upsets on the program, resulting in a Pick Six carryover of $92,015 when racing resumes with a 1 o’clock start on Saturday.
