INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 3, 2010)—Downhill Diva found room along the rail in the stretch and went on to spring a mild surprise in the $48,000 allowance feature Friday at Hollywood Park.

Owned by a partnership that includes Fast Lane Farms and trainer Patricia Harrington, the 3-year-old Swiss Yodeler filly out of the Snow Chief mare Snow Report won for the fourth time in 12 starts.

Now 3-for-8 over Cushion Track, Downhill Diva, who was ridden by Brice Blanc, ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.12. The margin of victory was 2 ¼ lengths.

Lifting her earnings to $120,638, Downhill Diva paid $14.40, $5 and $3.20.
Vision in Gold, the 13-10 favorite, gained second, 1 ¼ lengths in front of Queen Martha. She paid $3.20 and $2.40. The show price on Queen Martha, the 5-2 second choice, was $2.80.

Pacesetter Live and Love was fourth, then came Makoma, First Settler and Americas Dreaming.

Jockey Felipe Valdez was taken to nearby Centinela Hospital Medical Center for tests after being involved in a mishap in the second race.

Valdez, 32, who has one win at the Autumn meet, was unseated at the start by Score for Fun, a 2-year-old maiden trained by Mel Stute for his wife Annabelle. The longest shot in the field at 46-1, Score for Fun was uninjured.

Trainer Bob Baffert remains one victory shy of 2,000 in his career. For the Memories, the stable’s lone starter Friday, finished fourth in the fifth race.

Racing continues Saturday. Post time is 12:30 p.m.

Dakota Phone, the upset winner of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs, tops a field of seven in the $100,000 Native Diver Handicap. A Grade III at 1 1/8 miles over Cushion Track, the Native Diver is the eighth of nine races.
