INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 16, 2009) — Third choice Dreamalong, benefiting from a ground-saving ride by jockey Alex Solis, found a seam between horses to move into contention early in the stretch and went on to win Thursday’s $51,700 allowance feature by a half-length at Hollywood Park.
The victory was the second straight for the 3-year-old daughter of Rahy, who covered 1 1/16 miles on the Lakeside Turf Course in 1:42.47 while rewarding backers with payoffs of $9.60, $4.20 and $3.
Royal Fortune, ridden by Garrett Gomez, held on for second after setting the pace, paying $4.40 and $3.20. Pericia Fina, with Victor Espinoza up, paid $3.80 to show.
Favorite Win Allison Win finished fourth in the field of seven fillies and mares.
Dreamalong, trained by Julio Canani, banked $30,000 to increase her earnings to $90,900. She is owned by Alex Solis II — son of the jockey — Tom Lenner and Jeffrey Strauss.
Joel Rosario rode one winner and leads defending riding champion Rafael Bejarano by a 75-66 margin atop the jockeys’ standings with three days remaining at the 55-day meeting. Bejarano has won the last six major Southern California titles. Doug O’Neill has clinched the trainers’ title as he leads John Sadler by a 36-20 margin.
Jockey Michael Baze and trainer Matt Chew each had a pair of winners Thursday. The Spring/Summer Meet concludes with programs Friday through Sunday.
