INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 26, 2013) — Betfair Hollywood Park will have an early post time of 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4 for the simulcast of the 139th Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs.
Gates will open at 7 a.m. both Friday, May 3 and May 4. Betfair Hollywood Park will import all of the Kentucky Oaks program Friday and the complete Derby Day card Saturday. The first import from Churchill Downs is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. both days.
The second week of the Spring/Summer season begins Thursday, May 2. Post time is 1 p.m.
There are two stakes races on the May 4 card at Betfair Hollywood Park, topped by the $150,000 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap, a Grade II and the first prep for the $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, which will be run for the 74th time July 6.
In addition to the LeRoy, which is for older horses at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track, the other stakes to be offered is the $70,000-added Cool Frenchy for 3-year-olds & up at five furlongs.
Entries for the Mervyn LeRoy and Cool Frenchy and the rest of the May 4 program will be taken Wednesday, May 1.
The Kentucky Derby Day festivities will also include the Derby Dream Contest, where the fan that comes closest to picking the correct order of finish in the Kentucky Derby will win $1,000, and the start of the Triple Crown Challenge. This is a free contest where fans receive four selections in the Derby. If they have the winner among those picks, they will advance to the Preakness two weeks later.
