INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 15, 2013)—Eblouissante, Zenyatta’s half-sister and a smashing debut winner last Nov. 16 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make her first start as a 4-year-old in Thursday’s seventh race at Santa Anita.
The 3-5 morning line favorite in the $58,000 optional claimer, Eblouissante will have four opponents in the race at 1 1/16 miles. Post time for the eight race card Thursday at Santa Anita is 1 p.m.. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by John Shirreffs for owner-breeder Eric Kronfeld, Eblouissante, who is by Bernardini and out of the productive Kris S. mare Vertigineux, won by 4 ¼ lengths in her initial try over Cushion Track, using the same come-from-behind style that propelled 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta to 19 wins in 20 starts.
Stabled at Betfair Hollywood Park, Eblouissante, who has earned $27,000, was scheduled to make her second appearance Dec. 15 at her home track, but was scratched when she nicked herself leaving the receiving barn about 30 minutes prior to the race.
From inside out, the field for Thursday’s seventh: Double Ante, Joe Talamo rides, 120 pounds; Viva Carina, Edwin Maldonado, 122; Folk Dancer, Julien Leparoux, 120; Pink Blossom, Alonso Quinonez, 120 and Eblouissante, Corey Nakatani, 122.
