INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2010)—Sister Dawn established the lead immediately and went on to a 1 ¼ length victory in the $44,800 feature Thursday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.

Despite the win by the odds-on favorite in the next-to-last leg of the Pick Six, there will be a carryover of $54,223 when racing resumes Friday. Post time is 1 p.m. The Pick Six will begin in the third race.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Sister Dawn, a 3-year-old Indian Charlie filly out of the Strawberry Road mare Joi’s Flame, won for the third time in eight starts. She has earned $114,507.

Rebounding from a troubled effort when unplaced in the Victory Ride, a Grade III, on Aug. 28 at Saratoga, Sister Dawn ran the six furlongs on turf in 1:08.56.

The win was the second in three tries on grass for the $250,000 2-year-old purchase. Her other grass victory came at Del Mar on July 22.

In moving Sadler into a tie with Bob Baffert for the lead – each has six wins – in the Oak Tree trainer’s race, Sister Dawn paid $3.80, $2.40 and $2.20 as the 9-10 choice.

Softly Singing, who was making her turf debut for trainer and part owner Jerry Hollendorfer, returned $4 and $2.80. The show price on Miss Silver Brook, who finished one length behind Softly Singing, was $3.

Elusive Cookie, the longest shot in the field at 79-1, was a distant fourth, then came Sweet Sophia, Church Camp and Terrify. Paleo was scratched.

The win by Sister Dawn ended a run of victories by horses leaving from post position 5. Horses from that spot had won five consecutive races, spanning the second through the sixth.

Bejarano won the day’s other turf race, taking the fourth with 7-1 shot Neversaidiwassweet. The two-time defending Oak Tree riding champion holds a 17-16 advantage over Joel Rosario in the jockey standings.

Racing resumes Friday. Post time is 1 p.m.
