INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 20, 2013)—Gabriel Charles, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview last Nov. 3 at Santa Anita, will make his 2013 debut in the $70,000-added Tsunami Slew Stakes Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Restricted to 3-year-olds at one mile on turf, the Tsunami Slew is the third of nine races. Post time Sunday is 1 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Sam Britt and Michael House and trained by Jeff Mullins, Gabriel Charles has been idle since finishing second in the Eddie Logan Stakes over a wet fast surface last Dec. 29.

A son of Street Hero and the Atticus mare Star of Atticus, Gabriel Charles has won two of five and earned $117,500. The 3 ½ length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview was the lone try on grass for the Kentucky bred.

Trained by Julio Canani for owner and co-breeder Bill Currin, Rosengold has won three in a row after finishing last in his debut Jan. 5 at Santa Anita.

A Stormello colt out of the Mr. Prospector mare Lit’l Rose, Rosengold hasn’t raced since winning the Pasadena Stakes – at the Tsunami Slew distance – by a half-length as the 17-10 favorite March 29.

Undefeated in two starts on grass – he also won the Baffle Stakes March 2 at about 6 ½ furlongs – Rosengold has earned $123,370.

Olympic Blue arrives in Southern California after winning four in a row at Golden Gate Fields.

Perfect in three appearances on turf, the Olympio gelding is 2-for-2 since joining the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer after a private purchase.

Out of the Hoedown’s Day mare Blue Corn, Olympic Blue, who is owned by a partnership that includes Hollendorfer, Mark and Ann Janlois and George Todaro, has won five of 11 and banked $80,161.

The California bred hasn’t lost since finishing second in an $8,000 claimer Feb. 10 at Golden Gate when still trained by breeder Ellen Jackson.

A well-traveled son of Any Given Saturday and the Real Quiet mare Whirlwind Charlott, Show Some Magic will make his California and turf debut Sunday.

Trained by Henry Dominguez for owners J. Kirk and Judy Robison, Show Some Magic was last seen finishing 11th of 14 in the Grade III Illinois Derby April 20 at Hawthorne.
A winner of two of 12 and earnings of $368,890, Show Some Magic, prior to his start at Hawthorne, had competed at Churchill Downs, Saratoga, Delta Downs and Sunland Park. He was second behind Govenor Charlie in the Grade III Sunland Derby March 24.

Pure Loyalty will be aiming for his second win in three starts on turf for owner Robert Norman and trainer Mark Glatt.

A Florida-bred son of Simon Pure and the Arch mare Bourbon Night, Pure Loyalty finished second behind Miceli in an optional claimer in his first race over the Betfair Hollywood Park grass May 9. The effort in the optional claimer at the Tsunami Slew distance came on the heels of a nose maiden victory April 7 at Santa Anita, also at one mile. The bay has earned $80,040 while winning once in seven races. He’s been second or third in five of his six defeats.

Dirty Swagg will be making his grass debut for owner-breeder-trainer Myung Kwon Cho after finishing seventh of eight in the Grade III Affirmed Handicap June 2 on Cushion Track.

The Street Hero gelding out of the Tabasco Cat mare Diversa has one win in 11 starts and earnings of $59,150. He has finished in front of only two horses in four races this year.

From inside out, the field for the Tsunami Slew Stakes: Olympic Blue, Rafael Bejarano rides, 123 pounds; Dirty Swagg, David Flores, 116; Pure Loyalty, Gary Stevens, 115; Show Some Magic, Martin Pedroza, 116; Rosengold, Martin Garcia, 118 and Gabriel Charles, Joe Talamo, 118.
