INGLEWOOD, Calif. (March 20, 2012)—Stoney Fleece, who earned the lone graded win of his career when he captured the Generous Stakes last Nov. 27 at Betfair Hollywood Park, is among 10 3-year-olds scheduled to run in the $70,000 Pasadena Stakes Friday at Santa Anita.
An ungraded race at one mile on turf, the Pasadena is the seventh of eight races. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by John Sadler for owners Gary and Cecil Barber, Stoney Fleece has won three of eight since being claimed for $40,000 by his current connections out of a debut maiden score last July 28 at Del Mar.
In the Grade III Generous, the Decarchy colt out of the Deputed Testamony mare Gold Fleece rallied for an 8-1 upset, prevailing by 1 ¼ lengths over pacesetter Handsome Mike at the Pasadena distance.
A California bred, Stoney Fleece is 4-for-9 lifetime with earnings of $189,860. In his most recent start, he finished second, a neck behind Tones, as the 2-1 favorite in the Baffle Stakes Feb. 26.
Captain Obvious, who was fourth in his United States debut in the Real Quiet Stakes over Cushion Track last Nov. 12, will try for his second lifetime turf victory in the Pasadena. Ben Cecil trains the Irish bred son of Choisir for owner J. Paul Reddam.
