INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 12, 2011)—Recently returned to California, jockey Garrett Gomez directed 3-1 second choice Uh Oh Bango to a half-length decision over longshot Bogie in the $55,730 feature Thursday at Hollywood Park.

The victory was the first at a Spring/Summer meet for Gomez since he won with Gothic Samurai July 18, 2009.

Owned by breeder Triple AAA Ranch and trained by R. Kory Owens, Uh Oh Bango ended a seven race losing streak Thursday.

Before his third lifetime victory, the Arizona bred hadn’t won since taking the Prairie Meadows Freshman Stakes Sept, 18, 2009 in Iowa.

Closest to pacesetter and 9-10 favorite Burj Dubai for most of the journey, Uh Oh Bango got the lead early in the stretch and was able to hold off Bogie, a 10-1 outsider who was making his first start on a surface other than turf.

Completing the 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track in 1:43.88, Uh Oh Bango paid $8, $3.80 and $2.80. He increased his earnings in 11 starts to $351,612.

Bogie, who finished 3 ¼ lengths clear of Burj Dubai, paid $7 and $3.20. The show price on Burj Dubai was $2.60. One length behind the favorite in fourth was Cigar Man, then came Kate’s Event and Dream Nettie.

The inaugural Player’s Pick 5 carryover led to a record handle as players pursued a carryover of $107,487 from Sunday.

An additional $799,630 was wagered Thursday. There were 523 perfect tickets worth $1,125.80. Consolations with four of five returned $19.30. The Player’s Pick 5, which is a minimum 50 cent wager, has a takeout rate of 14%, the lowest for any bet offered in California.

The Pick 6, which had a carryover of $91,681, attracted $564,093 in new money. Winning tickets were worth $10,321.20. Five of six paid $144.

Racing resumes Friday. Post time is 7:05 p.m.

At the conclusion of the eight race program – approximately 10:30 p.m. – a concert starring Steel Pulse will begin at the North Park.
