INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2009) — Two-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Garrett Gomez, banged up in a spill Saturday, returned to action in style Wednesday, cruising to a seven-length victory aboard Conveyance in the co-featured $38,000 allowance feature at Hollywood Park.

Conveyance, trained by Bob Baffert for Thoroughbred Legends Racing Stable, covered six furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:09 to remain unbeaten in two starts. The 2-year-old son of Indian Charlie paid $3.20 as the odds-on favorite. Joyful Success finished second and Majestic Afleet was third.

Thoroughbred Legends is a partnership with racing icons D. Wayne Lukas, Nick Zito and Baffert as trainers.

Conveyance, a $240,000 purchase, broke his maiden in October at Santa Anita. The winner’s share of $22,800 boosted his earnings to $44,400.

Gomez, leading money rider in North America the last three years, has ridden the winners of $17.4 million in 2009 and trails leader Julien Leparoux by about $800,000.

In the co-featured $38,000 allowance/claiming feature, Rafael Bejarano guided second-choice Tactful to a 1 1/4-length victory over Mark the Bench. Despite lugging out following a six-month layoff, Tactful covered 6 ½ furlongs in 1:16.22 while winning his second straight race.

In the fifth race, the backup tractor was needed to pull the starting gate and primary tractor from the starting point. The race, which began just past the wire, was completed without incident with Fassnacht posting a 14-1 upset under Michael Baze.
