Grade I Winner Teddy’s Promise Returns Sunday

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 3, 2012)—Grade I winner Teddy’s Promise will make her first start since Jan. 28 in the $70,000 Time To Leave Stakes Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

An ungraded race for fillies and mares at five furlongs over Cushion Track, the Time to Leave is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 1 p.m.

Trained by Ron Ellis for owner-breeders Ted and Judy Nichols, Teddy’s Promise earned the biggest victory of her career on the final day of 2011. The Salt Lake filly out of the Capote mare Braids and Beads scored a 16-1 surprise in the La Brea Stakes, defeating Sugarinthemorning and eight others.

Rested since finishing fifth in the Grade I Santa Monica more than three months ago, the 4-year-old, who was bred in California, will be looking for her fourth win in six starts at Betfair Hollywood Park.

In her most recent appearance, Teddy’s Promise won an optional claimer by a half-length as the 11-10 favorite last Nov. 25. She’s won five of 14 lifetime and has a bankroll of $356,808.

Izzy Rules is back in California after having a four race win streak snapped in Arkansas. The 5-year-old daughter of Peace Rules and the Dayjur mare Da Dance finished fifth as the 9-10 choice against males in the Grade III Count Fleet Handicap April 14 at Oaklawn Park.

A winner in her only other race over Cushion Track last Dec. 4, Izzy Rules is 7-for-18 with earnings of $241,806. Jeff Bonde trains for owners George and Mary Clare Schmitt.

The beaten favorite when last seen in the Santa Monica, Rumor returns to a surface where she is 1-for-1. The 4-year-old Indian Charlie filly out of the Deputy Minister mare Mini Chat won an optional claimer here last May 28 for Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella.

Owned by Ramona Bass, Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider. Rumor has won four of eight and earned $201,718.

Dawnie Macho will be trying to end a six race losing streak for a partnership that includes Gary and Cecil Barber. Trained by John Sadler, the 4-year-old Macho Uno filly out of the Montbrook mare Blush of Dawn hasn’t won since a gate-to-wire score in the Landaluce July 11, 2010 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

The Florida bred has two wins in eight starts and has earned $92,560.

Another Hall of Fame trainer – Bob Baffert – will send out Pink Lollipops for owner Arnold Zetcher. The 4-year-old daughter of Silver Deputy comes off a half-length win as the 2-5 favorite in an optional claimer April 14 at Santa Anita.

Out of the Private Terms mare Christmas Rose, Pink Lollipops is 2-for-5 with a bankroll of $80,630. This will be her first start at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Excellent News will be making her initial appearance since being claimed for $62,500 by Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally for his wife Debbie.

A 5-year-old daughter of Rahy and the El Baba mare Mstoyou, Excellent News has four wins in 18 races and earnings of $221,874. Three of her victories have come over Cushion Track.

Away for nearly 11 months, Candy’s Pleasure will be trying to better a fifth place finish in the inaugural Time To Leave May 1, 2011.

Owned by Evelyn Ungaro and trainer Marcelo Polanco, Candy’s Pleasure is 3-for-18 with earnings of $91,161. She is 0-for-5 over Cushion Track.
