INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 17, 2012)—Halo Dolly, who has won four of six on turf, returns to that surface Sunday in the $70,000 Fran’s Valentine Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Restricted to California bred fillies and mares, the Fran’s Valentine is at one mile. It is the eighth of nine races. Post time Sunday is 1 p.m.
Owned by a partnership that includes Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Halo Dolly was fifth as the favorite in the B. Thoughtful Stakes on the California Gold Rush program in her first start of the Spring/Summer meet April 28.
A 4-year-old daughter of Popular and the Comic Strip mare Spanish Halo, Halo Dolly has won nine of 17 overall and earned $318,730. Her most recent victory on grass came against open company in the Solana Beach Handicap last Aug. 21 at Del Mar.
A win would be the second for Hollendorfer in the race. He won with U R All That I Am in 2010.
Trained by Hall of Famer Ron McAnally for owner-breeder Stephen B. Weissman, Sugarinthemorning will be trying two turns on turf for the first time in her career.
Out of the In Excess mare Social Belle, the Candy Ride filly has won five of 14 and banked $372,334. She has had success on the Betfair Hollywood Park grass, winning the Manhattan Beach Stakes at six furlongs last June 18 after finishing third seven weeks earlier in an allowance at the same distance.
Winless in five 2012 starts, Secret Cove will be trying to improve upon a sixth place finish in her first race of the meet May 3.
Owned by David Bernsen and trained by Peter Miller, the 4-year-old Tribal Rule filly out of the Cee’s Tizzy mare Tizadream is 5-for-19 with earnings of $180,239.
Platinum Mine is the only member of the field entering off a victory. The gray daughter of Memo out of the Afleet mare Ultrafleet won a restricted claimer going about 6 ½ furlongs on the Santa Anita turf April 12.
Owned by Brewer Racing Stable and David Lanzman Racing, Inc. and trained by Jeff Mullins, the 5-year-old mare has won twice in 13 attempts while earning $80,890.
Fourth in the aforementioned B. Thoughtful, Camille C returns to grass for owner Carlos Polanco and his brother, trainer Marcelo Polanco. The 5-year-old daughter of Roman Dancer and the Rahy mare Paris Operetta has won three of 28 and earned $374,955.
Winless in six attempts on the Betfair Hollywood Park turf, Camille C is seeking to end a losing streak that has reached 15 races. Her last win came locally in the Melair Stakes April 24, 2010.
