INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 6, 2012)—Home Journey, who has won her first two starts by a combined 9 ¾ lengths, will try to stay perfect in the $200,000 Soviet Problem Stakes Sunday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Scheduled for seven furlongs over Cushion Track, the inaugural Soviet Problem is part of the Golden State Series for horses bred or sired in California. The ninth of 10 races Sunday, the Soviet Problem is restricted to 2-year-old fillies.

Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by GGG Stables and Russ Sarno and trained by Mike Puype, Home Journey defeated state bred maidens by 1 ½ lengths in her debut Oct. 13 at Santa Anita before winning an allowance against fellow Cal breds by 8 ¼ lengths in her Cushion Track initiation Nov. 9.

A daughter of Good Journey out of the Came Home mare Goodtobehome, Home Journey has earned $58,800.

Tilde will cut back in distance after finishing sixth of seven against open company in the Sharp Cat Stakes Nov. 11. Owned by trainer Mike Harrington, who bred the gray filly with his wife Patricia, Tilde has won four of six and banked $332,560. The daughter of Swiss Yodeler and the Cee’s Tizzy mare Self Taught has won three consecutive stakes restricted to California breds. Two of the wins came at Del Mar – the CTBA and the Generous Portion Aug. 29 – and the other was the California Cup Juvenile Fillies Oct. 13 at Santa Anita.

Unusual Way will be aiming for her third stakes win in a row for owners Edward J. Brown, Jr. and Philip Lebherz and trainer Jeff Bonde. The Unusual Heat filly out of the Great Above mare Way Up followed an 11 length score in the Wine Country Debutante Aug. 11 at Santa Rosa with a 3 ½ length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Sprint Preview Nov. 3 at Santa Anita.

Bred by Thomas W. Bachman, Unusual Way has won three of five and banked $145,610.

Runner-up behind Home Journey last month, Akiss Forarose has one win in six starts for a partnership that includes Craig Warren, Templeton Horses LLC and breeder Terry Lovingier. Trained by Gary Sherlock, the daughter of Rio Verde out of the Kissin Kris mare Bold Kiss has banked $74,800. She won by a nostril at 24-1 in her career debut June 2 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Fourth in the race Home Journey and Akiss Forarose exit, Awe Golly Molly, who was also bred by Lovingier, is 1-for-7 with earnings of $60,080 for trainer Walther Solis.

The Awesome Gambler filly out of the All Gone mare Molly’s Gone is owned by a partnership that includes Lovingier, Bill Dolan, Patsy London, John Winters and Templeton Horses LLC.

Doinghardtimeagain, who finished second behind Tilde in the California Cup Juvenile Fillies, earned her maiden victory in her Cushion Track bow Nov. 9. Owned and bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds and trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, the Ministers Wild Cat out of the Conquistador Cielo mare Silver Hawk Lady has earned $88,500 in three starts.

Sacred Delight, who was third behind Home Journey in her first local race, has one victory in four attempts and earnings of $56,960. The Mutakkdim filly out of the Eltish mare Barbara O’Brien is trained by Eric Kruljac for owner-breeders Al and Sandee Kirkwood.

Owned and bred by Pam and Marty Wygod and trained by Marty Jones, Tribal Custom defeated $50,000 maidens by 6 ½ lengths in her Cushion Track debut Nov. 15. The Tribal Rule filly out of the Bertrando mare Villa Marguerite, who finished fifth in her initial try Aug. 24 at Del Mar, has banked $16,840.
