INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 21, 2012)—Killer Graces, whose biggest victory came in the Grade I Hollywood Starlet last Dec. 10 at Betfair Hollywood Park, returns to the turf in the $150,000 San Clemente Handicap Sunday at Del Mar.
A Grade II for 3-year-old fillies at one mile, the San Clemente is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 2 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.
Owned by a partnership that includes Dan Borislow, Gillian Campbell, Steve Melen and Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, Killer Graces will be making only her second start on grass in the San Clemente.
The daughter of Congaree and the Old Trieste mare Heatherdoesntbluff was third in her turf debut, finishing 3 ¼ lengths behind recent American Oaks winner Lady of Shamrock in the Grade III Providencia April 7 at Santa Anita.
In addition to her 14-1 upset in the Starlet, Killer Graces, who has earned $441,830, has two other stakes victories at Betfair Hollywood Park, taking the Cinderella and Landaluce during the 2011 Spring/Summer meet.
The 2-1 morning line favorite in the San Clemente is Eden’s Moon, the runner-up in the Grade II Hollywood Oaks June 23 at Betfair Hollywood Park. Owned by Kaleem Shah Inc. and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, the Malibu Moon filly out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Eden’s Causeway will be making her first start on turf Sunday.
Byrama, who won the Manhattan Beach Stakes June 9 at Betfair Hollywood Park, is the 5-2 second choice as she stretches out again for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and trainer Simon Callaghan.
