Lilly Fa Pootz Hopes To End Skid In Redondo Beach

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 2, 2011)—Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will seek his third victory in the $70,000 Redondo Beach Stakes when the race is renewed for the sixth time Sunday at Hollywood Park.

An ungraded race at one mile on turf for older fillies and mares, the Redondo Beach is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 1 p.m.

Recently elected to racing’s Hall of Fame, Hollendorfer, who won the 2009 Redondo Beach with Tuscan Evening after scoring in 2007 with Somethinaboutlaura, will be represented by Lilly Fa Pootz Sunday.

Owned by the trainer and Team Green, Lilly Fa Pootz, a 6-year-old Gilded Time mare out of the Fit to Fight mare Dark Rhythm, has won eight of 36 and earned $315,322.

Half of her victories have come in 18 starts since she was claimed by Hollendorfer and Team Green for $16,000 Dec. 10, 2009 at Golden Gate Fields. The most significant win was in the restricted Osunitas Stakes the following summer at Del Mar. She has also been second or third in four graded stakes, including a runner-up effort behind recent Gamely winner Dubawi Heights in the Wilshire Handicap April 30.

Part of the exacta in four of six races over the Hollywood Park grass, Lilly Fa Pootz will be seeking to end a nine race losing streak in the Redondo Beach. Her last win was in a $50,666 allowance race here last June 27.

The trailer in the Santa Barbara Handicap in her most recent start April 16, Andina will be aiming for her first win at Hollywood Park. Owned by Arnold Zetcher LLC and trained by Ben Cecil, the 4-year-old daughter of Singspiel and the Rahy mare Fragrant Oasis has won three of 12, banking $192,253.

Miss Pleasant, who outran her odds when third at 49-1 in the Wilshire, will be making her second start of the year for Diamond A Racing Corporation and trainer Richard Mandella. The 5-year-old daughter of Pleasantly Perfect and the Spend a Buck mare Harvest the Gold has won three of eight and earned $90,820. Her three victories have come either on synthetic or conventional dirt.

A double winner sprinting on the Santa Anita turf course, Tanda will try two turns for the first time on grass in the Redondo Beach. Owned by Tommy Hutton’s Dream Stable and trained by Dan Hendricks, the 4-year-old Sweetsouthernsaint filly out of the Dr. Caton mare Doc’s Stormy Girl is winless in three starts since capturing the 2010 Railbird Stakes. She has won four of nine and earned $223,710.

Sixth in the Wilshire, Talktoomuch will be looking for her fourth win since being claimed for $32,000 by trainer Mike Mitchell for Indizguys Stable last Nov. 4. The 7-year-old daughter of Royal Academy and the Hard Up mare Tatler has nine wins in 35 starts overall and a bankroll of $244,174. She is 6-for-9 on the Hollywood Park turf.

Wild Mia will make her California debut for Rosemont Stud Syndicate and trainer Tom Proctor. The 4-year-old Wildcat Heir filly out of the El Sultan mare Love Mia has won three of 11 while earning $183,594.

Hollywood Park will be the seventh different track at which Wild Mia will have run, joining Calder, Arlington Park, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs.

First Settler will aim for her third victory in a row for owner Charles Winner and trainer Neil Drysdale. A 4-year-old War Chant filly out of the Machiavellian mare Cold Cold Woman has won three of nine while earning $99,620. She won consecutive allowance races earlier in the year at Santa Anita.
