INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 2, 2009) — Front-running Live Sundays, caught by Enriched nearing the eighth pole, fought back in the final sixteenth under jockey Alex Solis to score his fifth straight victory in the $43,000 allowance/claiming feature Wednesday at Hollywood Park.
Live Sundays, trained by Chuck Jenda for Najji Farm, is unbeaten since breaking his maiden in his fifth start in August at Golden Gate Fields. He covered 7 ½ furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:28.43 while prevailing by a half-length. He is now five-for-nine with two seconds. The winner’s share of $33,540 boosted his earnings to $150,976.
The 3-year-old gelding paid $12 and $5.40 as the highest price in the field of four California-breds. Enriched returned $3.60. Favorite Bestdressed was a neck back of Enriched in third, while Star Nicholas finished fourth. There was no show wagering.
With a Pick Six carryover of $249,255 entering Wednesday, an additional $1,036,385 was wagered. Forty-nine perfect tickets were each worth $16,540.
