INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 3, 2011)—Majestic City will try to become the second winner of the $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship in a row to repeat in the $250,000 Del Mar Futurity Wednesday at Del Mar.
A Grade I for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs, the Futurity is the main attraction on the closing day program. The Futurity is the eighth of 10 races. Post time at Del Mar is 2 p.m. Track gates at Hollywood Park will open at 10:30 a.m. for simulcasts.
Owned by Bloom Racing Stable LLC and trained by Peter Miller, Majestic City won the first three starts of his career during the Spring/Summer meet, culminating with victories in the Willard L. Proctor Memorial Stakes and the Grade III Juvenile Championship.
If the son of City Zip is successful in the Futurity, he will emulate J P’s Gusto, who accomplished the double in 2010.
The likely favorite in the Futirity is Creative Cause. A winner at first asking over Cushion Track July 16, the Giant’s Causeway colt stepped into Grade II company Aug. 7, winning the Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar as the 4-5 favorite.
