INGLEWOOD, Calif. (December 27, 2012)—A troubled second in the Grade I Matriarch Nov. 25 at Betfair Hollywood Park, Tiz Flirtatious will try more distance in the Robert J. Frankel Stakes Sunday at Santa Anita.
Named in honor of the legendary trainer who won more races (952) than anyone in Betfair Hollywood Park history before he passed away in 2009, the Frankel is a Grade III for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on turf. It is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.
Trained by Marty Jones for owner-breeder Pamela Ziebarth, Tiz Flirtatious finished one length behind Better Lucky, who pulled the biggest upset in Matriarch history with her $72.20 surprise, in her initial Grade I appearance.
A 4-year-old California bred daughter of Tizbud and the Victory Gallop mare Masquerade Belle, Tiz Flirtatious has won four of six and earned $244,800. She has not been worse than third.
The field also includes Halo Dolly, a 14 time winner for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The 4-year-old Popular filly out of the Comic Strip mare Spanish Halo has complied seven of those wins in 2012, including the Fran’s Valentine Stakes over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf May 20.
