INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 15, 2009) — Favorite Reba Is Tops, who suffered a tough loss when falling a nose short in the Las Cienegas Handicap in April, took command in the stretch en route to a one-length victory under jockey Joe Talamo in Friday night’s $62,450 Lawndale Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Despite the win by the betting choice in the feature, there were no perfect Pick Six tickets, resulting in a carryover of $103,768 on Saturday’s program at Hollywood Park. The Pick Six begins with the fifth race on the ten-race program, which begins at 12 noon.
Reba Is Tops, trained by Mark Glatt, won for the fourth time in seven 2009 starts and the ninth in 16 career starts. The 5-year-old paid $5.80, 2.80 and $2.40 while banking $36,780 to raise her earnings to $224,945. Queen of the Catsle returned $3 and $2.40, while the show payoff on Porto Marmay was $3.80. Reba is Tops covered the five furlongs over the Lakeside Turf Course in a new course record time of :55.10.
Saturday’s program at Hollywood Park features the simulcast of the Preakness Stakes at 3:15 p.m. Races four through 13 will be imported from Pimlico with the first import at 8:48 a.m.
